The event Unpacked 2019, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Fold - your first foldable smartphone. The device is equipped with two displays and allows you to seamlessly switch between them depending on the content consumed and the tasks performed. In addition, the novelty is equipped with advanced technical characteristics, including support for 5G.
"Today, Samsung is opening a new Chapter in the history of mobile innovation, expanding the boundaries of what is possible in modern smartphones. The Galaxy Fold model is a fundamentally new category of devices and offers unique features thanks to the flexible Infinity Flex Display screen. We have created Galaxy Fold for users who would like to know what premium folding devices are capable of, not limited to traditional smartphones," said Dong Jin Koh, President and head of it and Mobile Communications division of Samsung Electronics.
According to Samsung, the new Galaxy Fold opens an independent category of devices. When folded, it is a compact smartphone with a 4.6-inch display, but if you decompose it, the user will get a small tablet with a diagonal of 7.3" and an aspect ratio of 4.2:3. For this gadget, the company has created a new polymer layer and the screen, which is almost twice thinner than traditional. To open and close the device, Samsung has implemented a special hinge mechanism and a connecting module, so that even with intensive use, the owner can count on the smooth operation of the gadget.
When folded, Galaxy Fold allows you to quickly answer a call, send a message, find the information you need on the Internet or take a photo. In the unfolded device is suitable for simultaneous work with several programs or viewing media content. The new product allows you to run on the internal display up to three active applications, be it games, messengers or video players.
Especially for Galaxy Fold, a new user interface was invented, optimized for multiple screens and switching between them. When you open and close the application, it is automatically displayed on the display with which the user is currently interacting. Samsung is working with the Google and Android developer community to ensure that the maximum number of programs and services are functioning correctly on the Galaxy Fold.
There are six cameras in Galaxy Fold. The main is completely similar to that in the Galaxy S10 and is represented by three modules with a replaceable diaphragm, optical image stabilization, double optical zoom and a super wide viewing angle of 123°. It is located on the back of the smartphone and is available for any usage scenario. With the front all much more interesting - it is both outside and inside. When folded, one 10-megapixel camera is available, and when you open the gadget — double with sensors for 10 and 8 MP with the ability to blur the background.
The fingerprint scanner is located on the end of the case in place of the thumb, which allows you to quickly unlock the device.
