Today, blockchain smartphones are no longer unusual, but Pundi X, one of the largest decentralized cryptocurrency networks, has managed to create a truly unique device. BOB, formerly known as XPhone, became the world's first modular crypto smartphone. What is most surprising about it is its unusual design.
Externally, BOB (Blok On Blok) resembles some kind of scientific or military device with different toggle switches and handles on the case. If desired, the buyer can use spare complete parts or purchase additional modules to customize the appearance of the device. According to the manufacturer, the idea is that everyone can create a unique smartphone. Developers were inspired by science fiction films and comics from the 80s and 90s.
BOB runs under the open-source operating system Function X. Since the device is based on the blockchain, all operations performed, whether sending messages, making calls, browsing the web or sharing files, are performed on a decentralized network, which provides a high level of protection for personal data. In addition, it is possible to switch the smartphone to the more familiar Android 9 Pie.
In terms of technical characteristics, BOB is quite an ordinary smartphone: 4.97-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of Full HD (16: 9), Snapdragon 660 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB drive with expandable, main camera with 48 MP, battery capacity of 3300 mAh with support for wireless charging and NFC.
BOB is now available for pre-order at $599. You can order it in the XWallet application, which is the Pundi X crypto wallet, and on Kickstarter.
