  • Intel has released a utility for easy overclocking of processors

Intel has announced the release of the Performance Maximizer application, presented last month along with new desktop processors at Computex 2019. With it, users can quickly and easily overclock CPUs without having to use the BIOS. However, not everyone can use the utility.

    Intel Performance Maximizer

Intel said that Performance Maximizer analyzes the individual settings of the processor, and then uses the so-called hyper-intellectual automation to improve performance. During a demonstration on Computex, the company showed how with this application, the clock speed of all core i7-9700K processor cores in turbo mode increased from 4.6 GHz to 5.2 GHz.

It is important to clarify that the utility is not compatible with all Intel chips. Currently, only the following models are supported: Core i9-9900KF, Core i9-9900K, Core i7-9700KF, Core i7-9700K, Core i5-9600KF, and Core i5-9600K. In addition, the computer must meet a number of requirements: operating system Windows 10 version 1809 or later, the system is loaded in UEFI mode, motherboard chipset Intel Z390, all processor cores must be active, you must enable Hyper-Threading (for Core i9), Turbo Boost 2.0, Intel Watchdog Timer Driver and Intel SpeedStep Technology.

You can download the Intel Performance Maximizer utility from the official site of the chip maker.

Note that such tools for their products offer companies AMD (Ryzen Master) and NVIDIA (OC Scanner).

Six months after the presentation of the ninth generation of Intel Core processors for desktop computers, Intel officially presented a similar line of chips for laptops, transformers, and other mobile devices. The new chips are built on the Coffee Lake architecture using an advanced 14nm process technology. According to Intel, the average frame rate in games increased by 56%, and the speed of editing 4K-video — by 54% compared to models three years ago.

The top solution among the ninth generation of mobile processors from Intel was the eight-core (16 threads) Core i9-9980HK with a base frequency of 2.4 GHz and an increase to 5 GHz in Boost mode. It supports Hyper-Threading technology and the ability to overclock out of the box. The TDP value, as in all new chips, is 45W. The cache memory is 16 MB.
According to Intel, i9-9980HK in comparison with last year's 8950HK provides 18% higher fps in the game Hitman 2, and when installing 4K-video performance gain is 28%. While playing, streaming and recording video from the screen in Black Ops 4, the new chip delivers 2.1 times higher frame rates.
Intel Core i9-9980H is a slightly simplified version of 9980HK. From the flagship, it differs only in the lack of overclocking and the values of the base and Boosts frequency: 2.3 GHz and 4.8 GHz instead of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

Next in the line are Core i7-9850H and Core i7-9750H — six-core processors with 12 threads and 12 MB cache. Model 9850H partially unlocked for limited dispersal. The main differences between the chips in the operating frequencies. Junior model in the line at the moment is the Quad-core Core i5-9400H and Core i5-9300H.

Presentation of new Intel processors should not wait in the coming months, but the network has already appeared the first details about them. According to the latest data, with the tenth generation chips made on the comet Lake architecture, the manufacturer will switch to the use of ten-thousandth values in the numbering of models. In addition, the technical characteristics of some future processors have become known.
At the moment, disclosed details about only four mobile chips Intel tenth generation. They belong to the comet Lake-U (CML-U) family and are designed for use in ultra-books, mini-PCs and other devices that do not require a lot of power. Intel has announced the release of a line of solid-state drives with Optane H10 memory. The key feature of the new products is the simultaneous use of Intel Optane chips and "classic" QLC 3D NAND cells, combined in one device to improve performance.

The drives are made in a compact form factor M. 2 2280 and are suitable for installation in thin ultrabooks and compact desktop systems, including monoblocks. Memory Intel Optane has a higher speed compared to the SSD on the basis of TLC 3D NAND in most of the common client script. Optane H10 uses QLC 3D NAND memory chips as the primary storage and 3D XPoint Cells as a high-speed access cache.
Passport data transfer speed of new products is up to 2400 MB/s for reading and up to 1800 MB/s for writing, memory performance in random access operations — up to 330 000 IOPS. The claimed resource of solid-state disk cells, depending on its volume, reaches 300 TB, time between failures — 1.6 million hours.

Each type of memory is equipped with its own controller, and the operating system treats the device as a single disk thanks to Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Fast access priority data is cached in the 3D XPoint memory cells, others are stored in the QLC 3D NAND array. Due to the features of the technology, the new items are compatible only with Intel processors of the eighth generation and newer.

Mobile platforms Intel Core U 8th generation with memory chips Intel Optane H10 in combination with solid-state drives will go on sale this quarter. The range of new products will be presented in the following configurations: 16 GB (Intel Optane memory) + 256 GB (drive); 32 GB (Intel Optane memory) + 512 GB (drive) and 32 GB (Intel Optane memory) + 1 TB (drive).
The price of Intel Optane H10 memory drives will be announced later.

AMD has introduced new mobile processors Ryzen Pro and Athlon Pro of the second generation. A total of four chips were shown with a maximum power consumption of about 15 W and integrated graphics Vega. They are designed for compact laptops and are suitable for work and entertainment.

The top model of the new line was Ryzen 7 Pro 3700U. It is a Quad-core solution (eight streams) with a base frequency of 2.3 GHz and a maximum of 4.0 GHz. The integrated graphics subsystem Vega 10 is responsible for working with graphics. Next comes the Ryzen 5 Pro 3500U with four cores (eight threads) and 2.1 GHz with a boost to 3.7 GHz. VEGA 8 acts as a graphics subsystem. Even more affordable solution was Ryzen 3 Pro 3300U with four cores (eight threads), 2.1 GHz with overclocking up to 3.5 GHz and graphics Vega 6. The Athlon Pro 300U — Junior model in the new line — has two cores (four streams) at 2.4 GHz (maximum 3.3 GHz) and integrated graphics Vega 3.
All four of the chip is made on a 12-nm process, whereas in the past generation were used of 14 nm.

In comparison with AMD Pro A12-98008 new Ryzen 7 Pro 3700U more powerful than 187% at the Central processor and 128% faster when running graphics applications. It also overtakes a bit in all the scenarios of its predecessor Ryzen 7 Pro 2700U.

Compared to the Intel Core i7-8650U, the new Ryzen 7 Pro 3700U shows a noticeable performance gain in terms of the CPU and GPU.

In the processing of pictures Ryzen 7 Pro 3700U 36% faster than its main competitor in the face of Intel Core i7-8650U. In the 3D simulation the difference is 64%, and in imaging — 258%. The situation is similar between Ryzen 5 Pro 3500U and Intel Core i5-8350U.

New mobile processors Ryzen Pro second generation graphics Vega provides more than 12 hours of battery life and up to 10 hours of continuous video playback.
For enterprise customers, AMD has equipped new chips with data encryption support and a dedicated coprocessor that supports all of the security features of Windows 10.

The release dates of the first devices on the Ryzen Pro 3000 are not yet reported, but HP and Lenovo have already announced the use of new chips in their future products.
