  • Xiaomi opens a center for the study of mobile cameras in Finland


    Xiaomi announced the opening of a research and development office in the Finnish city of Tampere. There, the company’s specialists will study and improve mobile shooting technologies. It will be the largest such center of a tech giant outside of China.

    Since the 1990s, the Finnish city of Tampere has made a huge contribution to the creation of innovations in the field of mobile cameras and image processing for leading mobile brands, and the technological campus of the University of Tampere is known for its achievements in signal processing. That is why, and also due to the availability of experienced personnel, Xiaomi decided to place its new center for research in the field of mobile cameras there.

    “Opening a research unit in Finnish Tampere is a big step in the direction of the global expansion of the Xiaomi brand. To approach this goal, we not only strengthen production and develop sales channels, but also work with talented personnel around the world to improve our products by developing and introducing innovative technologies. This step was another confirmation of our desire to create impeccable products that are accessible to a wide range of users around the world, ”said Xiaomi Senior Vice President Wang Xiang.

    According to Jarno Nikkanen, senior director and head of Xiaomi Finland R&D, in the new office they will focus on developing algorithms for cameras, machine learning, processing signals, images and video - all this will improve the quality and capabilities of mobile photography.
