Research firm NetMarketShare has published a report on the desktop operating system market as of August 2019. Unloved by many Windows 10 has overcome an important milestone and secured the title of the most popular operating system in the world, but the figures released 10 years ago Windows 7 is clearly not going to please fans.
As of August 2019, Windows 10 was installed on 50.99% of all computers in the world. In July, this indicator was 48.86%. Thus, the "Windows 10" for the first time in its history crossed the line of 50%. It took a little more than 4 years (Windows 10 was released on July 29, 2015). According to official data from Microsoft, about 800 million devices are now running Windows 10.
The second most popular desktop OS is Windows 7 with a falling market share of 30.34%. In third place is macOS 10.14 Mojave, which runs only 5.95% of computers. Overall, the share of macOS has of 9.74%. Linux takes about 2.14% and Chrome OS only 0.36%.
NetMarketShare analysts also published statistics on the rating of web browsers for desktop computers. Google Chrome remains the undisputed leader with a market share of 67.22%. The second place from 8.43% is Mozilla Firefox and holds third place Internet Explorer with 7.5%. Microsoft Edge is in the fourth position with 6.34%.
