In China, over the past day, 31 people died as a result of infection with the COVID-19 coronavirus, 139 new cases were identified, the State Health Committee of China reported.
Since the beginning of the epidemic in December, the total number of coronavirus victims in the country has reached 3012 people, 80409 cases of the disease have been registered.
All deaths over the past day were recorded in Hubei province, 23 of them in the administrative center of the province, the city of Wuhan. Since December last year, 2902 people have become victims of the coronavirus in Hubei, and 67446 have become ill. As of Thursday morning, 40.5 thousand people were cured and discharged from hospitals.
In total, 25.4 thousand people are currently being treated in medical institutions on the mainland of China, and the condition of 6 thousand patients is assessed as severe. More than 52,000 people recovered and were discharged.
Since December last year, 156 cases of the disease have been registered in Chinese territories outside the mainland: in Hong Kong - 104 (with two deaths), in Macau - ten, in Taiwan - 42 (one death).
Earlier, the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post reported that 3249 people had already died from coronavirus worldwide, nearly 95 thousand were infected.
At a meeting of the standing committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the eve of the meeting, President Xi Jinping noted positive trends but acknowledged that "the situation in the fight against the epidemic and the sphere of socio-economic development remains difficult," focusing primarily on the situation with the spread of the disease in Hubei in general and Wuhan in particular.
According to the Chinese leader, the risk of new outbreaks of coronavirus infection in other parts of the country is still high, in this regard, "vigilance cannot be reduced, the level of preventive measures can not be reduced."
