Greek authorities on Wednesday confirmed the first case of infection with the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) in the city of Thessaloniki, the Greek newspaper Kathimerini reported on Wednesday.
According to the newspaper, the patient is a 38-year-old woman who recently returned from the North of Italy. Her family will be quarantined for 14 days.
The woman is in "good condition and under the supervision of an excellent team of doctors," said Sotiris Tsigaras, a representative of the Greek Ministry of Health.
In addition, the Ministry of Health advises those who have recently traveled to the North of Italy to "stay at home and monitor their health, and if symptoms are detected, inform their doctor."
In total, 374 cases of coronavirus infection have already been detected in Italy, including 12 deaths.
According to the latest data, the number of people infected with the coronavirus has exceeded 80 thousand people in the world, and the fatal outcome has been recorded in more than 2.7 thousand cases.
The new COVID-19 coronavirus, which causes pneumonia, began spreading from the Chinese city of Wuhan - the administrative center of the Chinese province of Hubei - in December 2019.
