
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created a robot that can independently rebuild for different tasks, and at the same time change the appearance. In the future, scientists plan to refine it and make it scalable.
The basis of the robot - the principle of formation of life forms of 20 amino acids. A similar approach has not previously been used in robotics. Professor Neil Gershenfeld and student Will Langford used a limited set of details to build. The device itself has received five small base segments that are transposed into the mechanism that is necessary in certain conditions. Rebuilding occurs without human intervention.
A robot now created by MIT researchers is able to repeat primitive muscle movements, turn gears and lift a weight seven times its own.
As an example of the further development of the project, Gershenfeld cited 3D printers capable of printing electronic devices and mechanisms on their own. According to the scientist, such solutions will make robotics closer to the ordinary user.
