  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus: Qualcomm introduced a new flagship chipset for smartphones

    Qualcomm company without prior announcements presented an updated version of the flagship mobile platform Snapdragon 855. The new chipset with the prefix Plus was developed with an emphasis on mobile gaming, artificial intelligence technology, and mixed reality.

    Snapdragon 855 Plus differs from the usual Snapdragon 855 increased performance. This was achieved through the following changes:

    • the core frequency of the Kryo 485 CPU has been increased from 2.84 to 2.96 GHz;
    • Adreno 640 graphics accelerator power increased by 15%.

    The chipset can be produced with both multi-Gigabit LTE-modem Snapdragon X24 and 5G-modem Snapdragon X50. Qualcomm assures that 5G smartphones based on Snapdragon 855 Plus will be able to work without recharging the whole day. The use of Qualcomm AI Engine, a fourth-generation multi-core processor capable of performing more than 7 trillion operations per second, improves the quality of gameplay thanks to artificial intelligence technologies. In addition, Snapdragon 855 Plus provides enhanced support for virtual and augmented reality.

    Commercial devices based on Snapdragon 855 Plus will be on sale in the second half of 2019. Presumably, the new chipset will receive Samsung Galaxy Note10, Google Pixel 4, OnePlus 7T and other new products, the release of which is expected before the end of the year.
