Ray tracing technology, first demonstrated by NVIDIA a year ago, so far does not look like the most optimized entertainment exclusively for wealthy enthusiasts. However, in the future, this method of working with light will become the standard for games. Company researcher Morgan McGuire believes that this will happen in 2023.
Quote"I predict that the first AAA game to require a graphics card that supports ray tracing technology will be released in 2023. By this time, each platform will receive an appropriate graphics accelerator," McGuire wrote on his Twitter page.
In his analysis, the researcher refers to the speed of the spread of new technologies in video games since 1958, when it was invented by Tennis for Two. In 1963, the industry began to expand — Spacewar appeared! and the first text simulators, as well as the company was formed SEGA. In 1979, the first PC Atari 800 was released on the market, and in 1985, home gaming became the norm with the NES console. In 1999, NVIDIA released the revolutionary GeForce 256 graphics chip — in 2004, GPUs like this were required for all major games. Racing was first introduced in 2018, so, following the same logic, the tracing technology should become the standard for the industry by 2023.
