The first Nokia Android smartphones appeared in 2017. Releasing four models at once, the brand promised to provide device support for two years. Now, Nokia’s management has revised the deadlines and decided to release security updates and software patches for another year.
Support consists of regularly providing critical security-related smartphone updates. Such updates come, as a rule, once a quarter. For the models released in 2017, the terms now look like this:
- Nokia 5: from October 2019 to October 2020
- Nokia 6: from October 2019 to October 2020
- Nokia 8: from October 2019 to October 2020
For the Nokia 2 model, the latest such update will be released on November 2019.
Nokia is not the only company whose devices receive security updates after three years now. So, Samsung still has not taken support from the Galaxy S7, released in 2016. But in the Android device segment, both brands look more like an exception to the rule. Often, manufacturers are much faster to stop supporting the presented smartphones, classifying them as obsolete.
