Many large vendors, including Apple and Microsoft, have long acquired their own mapping services, but Google’s solution remains the most popular in the mobile market. Huawei decided to change the situation - the company announced a joint launch with Yandex its own analog Google Maps this fall.
A service called Map Kit will be developed in partnership with the Russian Yandex and American Booking Holdings. It will connect to local mapping services and will cover 150 countries and regions with support for 40 interface languages. Huawei will also be able to use its telecommunications base stations in some countries to make satellite positioning more accurate for users of its mapping service.
The Map Kit will include real-time traffic information, a navigation system, and augmented reality features. According to representatives of Huawei, more than 50% of mobile applications now use the geolocation function using map services. Representatives of the vendor noted that this is not a finished application - it is assumed that turnkey solutions based on Map Kit will be developed by partners of the company.
The release of the Huawei Map Kit will be held in October this year. In the future, Huawei plans to introduce other development tools to developers. The list includes Site Kit, Location Kit, Drive Kit, Scan Kit and other APIs for creating various services included in the vendor ecosystem.
