  • Hackers attacked the most popular custom Android firmware LineageOS server

LineageOS, formerly known as CyanogenMod, is now the most popular non-commercial firmware based on the Android operating system. As it became known, a hacker attack was made on the developers' servers, which endangered a huge number of users around the world.

Hackers attacked the most popular custom Android firmware LineageOS server

The LineageOS team reported that the attacker used two vulnerabilities in the Salt server software to gain access to the firmware code. However, the developers managed to react in time and simply disconnect the servers to stop the attack.

The developers claim that the hacker failed to damage the firmware source code, builds, or cryptographic keys. They remind that LineageOS is an open-source project, so everyone can personally check the firmware code to make sure it is secure.

Recently, LineageOS released an update to version 17.1, so dozens of devices got Android 10. Among them, there are even seven-year-old models.

Microsoft demonstrated the work of Project xCloud - a streaming service that allows you to run games on any device. Once cloud technology was something of a fantasy, but today they are looked at by many large companies, including the manufacturer Xbox. And if the diskless console still exists only at the level of rumors, the opportunity to enjoy, say, Forza Horizon 4 on Android-smartphone will be available to the General public this year.
The recent racing hit is mentioned for a reason: it was on the example of Forza Horizon 4 that the capabilities of Project xCloud were shown. According to Karim Chowdry, responsible for this direction at Microsoft, gaming should develop this way: users will not be limited to the platform or the device and will be able to play anywhere from any device. The principle of operation of the service is very simple: the files are run in the data center of the Corporation and broadcast to the selected user gadget, whether phone or PC.
Chowdry stressed that Project xCloud is not created as a replacement for consoles. It's more a way to give gamers choice and freedom. The audience's attention was also focused on the fact that the quality of the games will not suffer — thanks to the power of data centers you will not have to sacrifice a high level of graphics and other settings. Public testing of the technology promises to start this year.

Google has been testing Android 11 for several months and was supposed to tell all the details about the system at the I/O 2020 developer conference, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, the search giant still intends to hold a small presentation, publishing an online invitation for everyone.
The presentation of Android 11 will be held online on June 3 as part of the Beta Launch Show. During the broadcast, Google employees will talk about the new version of the "green robot". A special aftershow is planned for developers, where the company's experts will answer various questions about the new OS. Questions should be asked in advance via Twitter, specifying the special hashtag #AskAndroid in the message.
Along with the presentation, the first build of Android 11 Beta is expected to be released. The final version is scheduled for release in the third quarter of this year.
Interestingly, a little earlier, Apple announced the date of its WWDC conference, where iOS 14 will be presented.

Google has already released pre-builds of Android 11, but Developer Preview images, according to developers, are not intended for ordinary users. Soon after the announcement of the release date of the new version of the mobile OS, the company published a roadmap with a schedule of releases of more "friendly" beta versions, which all owners of compatible smartphone models can try out.

Initially, it was expected that Google will release the final versions of the API for developers and switch to open testing of new user functions in May this year. Later, the situation changed: according to the updated schedule, the place of the long-awaited build was taken by Developer Preview 4, and the first user beta version of Android 11 will appear only in early June.
The second and third public builds will be presented in July and August, respectively, and the release of the final version, according to Google, will take place in the third quarter of this year. As the reason for the delay of the public beta, the company points out the need for more thorough testing of the stability of the operating system by developers. The exact date of the official launch of the eleventh version of the "green robot" has not yet been announced.

Google has already released two beta versions of Android Q, but not all new features are available for review. One of them is to simplify and speed up the use of smartphones by adding a new method of interaction. Interestingly, a similar function was implemented by Apple back in 2015.
It's about 3D Touch. Introduced for the first time in the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, this feature allows you to tap the screen hard to get quick access to some information. It also allows you to preview content without opening it directly. In the Android Q developer documentation in the "MotionEvent" section dedicated to management, there was a mention of the so-called "deep press" when the user intentionally presses the touch screen harder. As they say, this is an accelerated version of the long press. In other words, the functions that are now running on Android long Tapu, you can perform faster with a strong press.
Judging by the description, Android devices will not be able to distinguish between light, medium, and strong pressing, as it is implemented in iOS. It is also not clear how Google intends to implement this option. For example, iPhone with 3D Touch support uses special pressure sensors.
