Analytical company IHS Markit has published a forecast of shipments of bendable smartphones by major vendors. Despite the delay in the release of the flagship models of Samsung and Huawei, experts believe that the market capture devices with flexible screens are not long — and even told what time it should happen.
According to analysts, in the first half of 2019, smartphone shipments decreased compared to the same period last year, but shipments of AMOLED screens did not decrease. On the contrary, sales of this component are expected to increase by 30% in the second quarter. This is due to the reduced cost of matrices and the widespread use of sub-screen fingerprint scanners.
With the development of fierce competition in the smartphone market, the production technology of AMOLED displays will improve, and the demand for chips such as sub-screen cameras and curved glass - grow. According to the forecast of IHS Markit, bent screens will also become a trend — it is expected that by 2024 the number of their shipments will reach 50 million units.
Currently, most of the new models of smartphones, including bendable ones, are equipped with OLED displays. Analysts believe that taking into account the subsequent refinement of existing solutions by manufacturers, their forecast is quite realistic.
