    Brazil has confirmed the first case of coronavirus infection in the country, the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper reported on Wednesday, citing a source.

    The man, who was suspected of being infected with the coronavirus the day before, visited Italy on a working trip between February 9 and 21. Italy has now identified the highest number of cases of infection with the virus among other European countries.

    The infected person asked for help on February 24 at a hospital in São Paulo after returning from a trip to Lombardy. The patient is isolated, his condition is assessed as stable.

    The Brazilian Ministry of Health is expected to make an official statement later on in the first case of Covid-19.

    Brazil became the first Latin American country to become infected with the new coronavirus.
