China's Alibaba, which owns the AliExpress marketplace, is known as the trading giant - but recently the company has announced itself as a smartphone developer. A patent has appeared in the network that demonstrates a bendable gadget with an original design that is markedly different from the solutions available on the market from other vendors.
Published by the World Intellectual Property Organization, the patent of a Chinese company describes the design of the device with a folding display and two hinges that allow you to bend an oblong clamshell into a small square. Unlike the model previously demonstrated by Xiaomi, the device is folded in length.
According to the sketches presented in the document, the gadget will receive a screen with minimal frames, and the physical power and volume buttons will be placed on the right side of the case. Another feature of the device is an auxiliary display on the rear panel, which occupies a third of its area. When bending the device, this screen will act as the main one.
It is noteworthy that Alibaba does not manufacture electronics on its own - presumably, the company may sell the patent to one of the partners. It is expected that the price of the device will be lower than that of previously presented bendable models.
Detailed specifications and the expected date of the appearance of the unusual clamshell are unknown.
