  • Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8L IS USM and RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM - Canon showed two new advanced lens for EOS R

Canon introduced the first two lenses from the announced RF F2.8L trio, which will expand the RF lineup for the EOS R. The RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM is a standard zoom lens with advanced technical features, while RF The 15-35mm F2.8L IS USM has become the manufacturer's most wide-angle lens for the EOS R.

The new RF 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM and RF 24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM lenses are designed for the RF mount using new technology solutions. The RF 24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM design includes 3 ultra-low dispersion and 3 pressed glass aspherical elements, and the RF 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM includes 2 ultra-low dispersed and 3 aspherical elements. Both lenses provide correction for aberrations, distortions, and astigmatism and allow you to create images that are sharp across the entire frame and in the entire zoom range.

New items have a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8, which allows professional shooting in low light and precisely control the depth of field. In addition, high aperture provides sharpness of images due to the use of shorter shutter speeds with a lack of light.

The RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM is suitable for landscape and portrait photography. This is a universal standard zoom lens for professional photographers who need to act quickly. Its open aperture creates a bokeh effect, highlighting the subject with a blurry background. The RF 15-35mm F2.8L IS USM is an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens. The range of focal lengths covers a number of popular viewing angles, making it suitable for shooting natural and architectural landscapes. This is Canon's most wide-angle zoom lens with a maximum f / 2.8 aperture. Also, a wide aperture will appeal to photographers specializing in shooting sports, photojournalism, and astrophotography.

The new lenses are equipped with an image stabilizer with compensation for 5 exposure levels based on Canon's own technology, first used in the EF line. Dual Sensing IS and Combination IS technologies improve the recognition of lens shake, and when a tripod is detected, the stabilization system automatically turns off.

The RF 15-35mm F2.8L IS USM and the RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM are the first Canon high-speed zoom lenses using Nano USM technology. This solution was first applied to the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. Nano USM lenses are equipped with a drive system that provides high focusing speed when taking pictures, as well as smooth and almost silent focus when recording video. Therefore, such models are indispensable for videographers working with the EOS R system. The RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM lens, like the RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM, has a system for suppressing the focus breathing effect, which prevents unnecessary changes in the viewing angle when focusing.

Like other RF lenses, the new products have a control ring that can be used to adjust aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity or exposure compensation according to the preferences of the owner, as well as a constantly available manual focus ring. Both models are designed for many years of use and have protection against dust and moisture, and also have an oil and water repellent fluorite coating on the front and rear lenses.

In addition to the new lenses, Canon will release a firmware update for the EOS R and EOS RP cameras, which improves the quality of autofocus with eye recognition on both SLR and mirrorless cameras. The update allows the camera to detect the model’s eyes and focus on them from a much greater distance compared to the previous version and also improves detection speed and tracking accuracy. In addition, the developers have simplified the appearance of tracking AF indicators in the eyes and increased the refresh rate of the indicators.
