Next year, the summer Olympics 2020 and the Paralympic games 2020 will be held in one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world — Japan. On the occasion of the sporting event, Toyota decided to design a special version of the futuristic passenger carrier to accompany the Olympics.
Accessible People Mover (APM) — that's how Toyota called its development. Its task will be to transport participants of the Olympiad, staff, event organizers, elderly guests, pregnant women, families with young children and people with disabilities to the venue of sports events. Part of the APM fleet will be dedicated to the provision of medical care.
APM is represented by a low-speed electric car, designed for short distances. In total, transportation of six people is provided: the driver and passengers, for whom sofas for two and three seats are allocated. The driver's seat is placed strictly in the center for a better view and the ability to communicate with passengers.
For transportation of people in a wheelchair, it is possible to fold the seats of the second row. The width of the electric car is enough to accommodate a stretcher and two accompanyings. From passenger sofas, the car is closed by special laths. APM has anchor plates and ramps to make it easier for people with disabilities to land.
The manufacturer plans to produce about 200 such carriers.
