  • Google has simplified the transfer of secure data between Android smartphones

    DeZire

When upgrading a smartphone, you have to transfer not only your Google account to a new gadget but also all programs, many of which often require two-step authorization after reinstalling. To speed up the "move", Google has released the first major update of the company's Authenticator app in three years, reducing the entire tedious process to a few seconds.

Google has simplified the transfer of secure data between Android smartphones

In the new version of Google Authenticator, you can transfer accounts from one device to another using a QR code that must be scanned using the camera of the new device. This will significantly reduce the verification time compared to the standard code request and its subsequent manual input. In addition, the application received an interface that meets the concept of Material Design 2.0, as well as a dark color scheme of the design.

The new version of Google Authenticator will be distributed in waves and is already available in Google Play for some regions.

Google has modified the algorithm for issuing the results of its proprietary search engine. Now it will be even easier to get a response to your request — the company has launched a new useful feature that can provide users with the necessary information from the Internet even faster.

Usually, when a request is made to Google, a quick response appears at the top of the search results page — a summary of data obtained from the site where the necessary information is published. These blocks are called highlighted descriptions and contain a link to the most popular page related to the search subject. After modifying the search engine, it will automatically highlight the key data corresponding to the query, right on the web page after the click. This allows you to quickly find the information you need without scrolling through the entire material.
If the search was performed using Google Assistant, the virtual assistant can read the highlighted description aloud. It usually consists of a text fragment, list, step sequence, or table, contains data about a specific search object, and includes information such as the title of the material and URL links.
According to Google, site owners do not need to take any additional actions for the new feature to work. If for some reason the search engine cannot select the desired content or the browser does not support the appropriate options, Google will simply open the page as usual.
The updated search engine algorithm was available to some users at the end of May, and will soon be active in all regions.

The Google Lens app is used to recognize objects using the camera and helps you quickly find the necessary information about what your smartphone "sees". With the next update, the Google app has received several useful features that can expand the list of features of Android smartphones.

The new version of Lens not only copies the scanned text to the smartphone's clipboard but can also send it to a PC with the latest Chrome browser installed. To do this, both devices must be registered in the same Google account.

In addition, users no longer need to open a separate app to find the meaning of a word or phrase. Now, after selecting the text in Google Lens, you can swipe up the Google search tab and immediately get the information you need.
The updated version of the app also allows you to listen to any scanned foreign text. With the help of this function, the user can hear the correct pronunciation of unfamiliar words.
According to Google, the new features are already available to Android users, and the release date for the iOS version of the app will be announced later.

Google has already released pre-builds of Android 11, but Developer Preview images, according to developers, are not intended for ordinary users. Soon after the announcement of the release date of the new version of the mobile OS, the company published a roadmap with a schedule of releases of more "friendly" beta versions, which all owners of compatible smartphone models can try out.

Initially, it was expected that Google will release the final versions of the API for developers and switch to open testing of new user functions in May this year. Later, the situation changed: according to the updated schedule, the place of the long-awaited build was taken by Developer Preview 4, and the first user beta version of Android 11 will appear only in early June.
The second and third public builds will be presented in July and August, respectively, and the release of the final version, according to Google, will take place in the third quarter of this year. As the reason for the delay of the public beta, the company points out the need for more thorough testing of the stability of the operating system by developers. The exact date of the official launch of the eleventh version of the "green robot" has not yet been announced.

Google has been testing Android 11 for several months and was supposed to tell all the details about the system at the I/O 2020 developer conference, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, the search giant still intends to hold a small presentation, publishing an online invitation for everyone.
The presentation of Android 11 will be held online on June 3 as part of the Beta Launch Show. During the broadcast, Google employees will talk about the new version of the "green robot". A special aftershow is planned for developers, where the company's experts will answer various questions about the new OS. Questions should be asked in advance via Twitter, specifying the special hashtag #AskAndroid in the message.
Along with the presentation, the first build of Android 11 Beta is expected to be released. The final version is scheduled for release in the third quarter of this year.
Interestingly, a little earlier, Apple announced the date of its WWDC conference, where iOS 14 will be presented.

Samsung is one of the few manufacturers of processors for smartphones. The company even enlisted the support of AMD, together with which it is creating graphics accelerators based on the RDNA architecture for mobile devices. Now it has become known that the South Korean giant is developing a custom chipset together with Google.

According to sources from Korea, this year Samsung and Google will release a joint mobile chipset made by the 5-nm process. From the search giant, it will get an image processing processor (ISP) and a neural unit (NPU). This will be an eight-core solution with four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores, and a pair of Cortex-A78 cores. ARM's Mali MP20 video accelerator, which was built on the new Borr microarchitecture, will be responsible for the graphics.
Probably, the chipset will appear in the new Pixel smartphones from Google. Whether it will be available to other manufacturers is unknown.
It is worth noting that earlier this year, Samsung created a new Custom SoC team inside the division responsible for devices. According to available information, it consists of 30 people whose task is to create custom processors. They may be working on a chip for Google.
