The other day, OnePlus confirmed the presence of a triple camera in OnePlus 7 Pro, and now, two weeks before the official presentation, the first examples of photos appeared on the Internet. They shared the portal Wired, which received at its disposal a pre-sale sample of the upcoming smartphone and talked with the main OnePlus on the cameras.
All the photos were taken with the help of OnePlus 7 Pro at Baku F1 in Azerbaijan.
Triple optical zoom on OnePlus 7 Pro
Wired journalists confirmed that OnePlus 7 Pro will be three times optical zoom. This is a big leap for the company, which at the release of OnePlus 5 announced a two-fold approach, but in reality, it was 1.6-fold with a digital increase to 2x. In subsequent models, up to and including OnePlus 6T, the manufacturer did not use optical zoom at all.
"I think we have a chance to compete with the first-level phones. I don't think we can beat them, but the world of images is always subjective," OnePlus image Director Simon Liu told Wired reporters.

Also, the representative of OnePlus told why they did not make optical zoom in smartphones before:
"From the point of view of a professional photographer, one of the main differences of the smartphone is the optical zoom. In our previous phones, we wanted to keep a great case that wouldn't be too thick and that the lens wouldn't stick out too much. User feedback on the forum helped me implement these features in the smartphone. At the same time, we tried to find a balance in the whole experience of interaction with the smartphone," said Simon Liu.
HDR operation on OnePlus 7 Pro
Wired employees note that even when using triple zoom, even when shooting during the day in good light, you can notice enough noise throughout the photo and color noise in dark areas. The detail is quite good. The main camera of the smartphone has a resolution of 48 MP and combines neighboring pixels into one large one to capture more light — in this case, the photos are obtained with a resolution of 12 MP. In the tested sample it was not possible to manually switch between the resolution, but it may appear in the final version of the smartphone.

The HDR mode works on OnePlus 7 Pro better than OnePlus 6T - so it seemed to journalists Wired. According to them, pictures taken with HDR look much more natural while maintaining a realistic temperature. When shooting, the smartphone itself tells in which case which lens is better to use.
"Our competitors use scene detection with AI. We do things like that, too, but the point is not to show it to a person. Most of this is done behind the scenes. We've changed the setting a bit, but OnePlus users shouldn't expect too much of a difference. If you're trying to shoot a plant and the camera says it's a dog, it's useless. Portrait mode has become more natural. The bokeh effect is closer to what you will get from a professional lens. It used to be more artificial to prove that the effect is there, but when you use a digital camera, the blur isn't really that strong," said Simon Liu.
Night photo on OnePlus 7 Pro
In night mode, OnePlus 7 Pro takes a little longer than usual, but the final picture is much brighter. At the same time to the results of the same Huawei P30 Pro new OnePlus falls short. Compared to the OnePlus 6T, the quality of night photos has improved.
As a result, Wired journalists noted that the photos on the OnePlus 7 Pro look more natural and more accurately convey reality than any of the company's previous smartphones. However, before the flagship Huawei or Samsung, he still falls short, although significantly reduced the gap.
