Back in 2016, Tesla announced plans to produce its own solar panels. Their installation on the roofs of houses would allow customers to significantly save on electricity. Three years later, the company finally introduced the first production models, which is ready to launch in production.
The head of the company Elon Musk said that the roof from Tesla will be cheaper than conventional designs with solar panels. The presented generation is the third in a row, and the company positions it as the most suitable for wide use. It is simpler and cheaper to produce.
Tesla plans to install about 1,000 roofs a week. The first deliveries are expected in the coming weeks. The most compact version has 186 square meters, and its cost is $33,950, including a tax of $8850. For comparison, the company published a photo of the traditional roof, which was equipped with solar panels. The price difference is almost $10,000. Elon Musk also noted that the installation of the roof is economically justified only for those buyers who plan to repair an old roof that requires replacement.
The company gives a 25-year warranty on all work, solar panels, and the roof. The panels are covered with tempered tinted glass. At the time of the presentation, Tesla offers only one color option but plans to expand the range every six months.
