Global warming is a very serious thing, and the maximum danger is the melting of glaciers, which increases the level of the Oceans. Changes can lead to disastrous consequences, but it is too early to despair and prepare for the end of the world. Recently, scientists from the University of Potsdam figured out how to prevent a catastrophe.
Over the past half-century, the world's glaciers have lost more than 9 trillion tons of frozen water. However, it makes no sense to fight with what has already happened, and scientists are still far from such global "battles". For a start, experts decided to focus on West Antarctica. Now it stores reserves of ice sufficient to increase the level of the World ocean by as much as 3 meters when melting. To minimize the threat, German climatologists have proposed a simple but effective option: to fill the region with artificial snow. To be precise — as much as 74 trillion tons of artificial snow. And this is not a joke.
According to the climate model created by scientists at the University of Potsdam, increasing the ice layer by 10 meters per year can save the glaciers of West Antarctica from melting. Just for the formation of such a layer and need to cover the glacier 7.4 thousand hectares of artificial snow. Whether the original proposal of German researchers will be taken seriously by the luminaries of world science is not yet clear. And even if they do, it is not clear who will undertake the implementation of the crazy idea of climatologists.
