Qualcomm has announced the latest mobile platform Snapdragon 730. The novelty, made by 8-nm process technology, received two modifications, including a special game version, and advanced functions of the flagship line. At the same time, an updated model of a more affordable series of processors called Snapdragon 665 was presented, which acquired a new graphics core and advanced photo capabilities.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 is a modified version of the sub-flagman mobile platform Snapdragon 710. The novelty was the first Qualcomm processor made by 8-nm process technology. The configuration of clusters has also changed: under the "hood" of the CPU there are two cores ARM Cortex A76 with a clock frequency of 2.2 GHz and six Cortex A55 (1.8 GHz). At the request of the vendor, the performance compared with the predecessor increased by 35%.
The processor works in conjunction with the graphics accelerator Adreno 618, LTE modem X15 and supports the standard wireless connection Wi-Fi 6. Another chip Snapdragon 730 was the latest signal processor Hexagon 688 with tensor accelerator, which can be used for machine learning. It is reported that the power consumption of the AI processor when performing various tasks decreased four times compared to the previous revision.
Among other features of the new product — image processor Spectra 350, capable of shooting 4K HDR video in portrait mode — for the first time in the line of "seven-hundredth" chipsets. There is also support for the HEIF format to save the internal storage space.
Along with the basic version of the mobile platform was presented and its gaming modification called Snapdragon 730G with increased GPU frequency, increased to 25% gaming performance, the function of Jank Reducer to reduce the loss of frame rate and anti-cheat functions. The "charged" version with the letter G also has the ability to record slow-motion video (960 fps) and support for HDR10-displays with a resolution of 1440p.
I received an update and the 600th series of processors. The 11nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 replaced last year's Snapdragon 660. At the heart of the new product — four cores Kryo 260 (Cortex A73) and four Kryo 260 (Cortex A53) with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz and 1.8 GHz, respectively. The graphics core has been updated from Adreno 512 to Adreno 610 with support for VULKAN 1.1 API and increased energy efficiency by 20%.
The platform also got upgraded Hexagon DSP coprocessors 686 165 and Spectra ISP — latest supports 48-megapixel sensor and triple basic cameras. Snapdragon 665 audio capabilities include support for Qualcomm aptX Audio and Aqstic technologies.
The first devices based on Snapdragon 730, Snapdragon 730G and Snapdragon 665 processors are expected to appear in the second half of 2019.
