Qualcomm has introduced a new Qualcomm 215 chipset. Interestingly, its name is missing the word Snapdragon. The mobile platform is focused on smartphones priced at around $ 100 and brings a number of new features in this segment. For example, such devices can be equipped with dual cameras, high-resolution screens, NFC and support for fast charging.
Qualcomm 215 mobile platform includes a 64-bit CPU with four cores Cortex A53 with a frequency of up to 1.3 GHz. According to the manufacturer, in comparison with Snapdragon 212 speed increased by 60%. The graphics accelerator Adreno 308 is responsible for working with graphics; it supports video playback at resolutions up to 1080p. Gaming performance increased by 28%. The chipset also includes a Snapdragon X5 modem with LTE Cat 4 support (up to 150 Mbit/s per download and up to 50 Mbit/s per return), two active SIM cards, Ultra HD Voice Calls, and VoLTE.
The new chipset supports screens with a resolution of 1560x720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 because 540p displays are still popular in smartphones costing about $ 100. In addition, this is the first representative of the 200th series with a Dual-ISP, which makes it possible to install second cameras with optical zoom or wide-angle lenses in low-cost devices.
According to the company, with a 3000 mAh battery, a Qualcomm 215-based smartphone can work more than five days in music playback mode or over 10 hours - in the case of video. In addition, support for fast charging speeds up the energy replenishment process by 75%.
Another important feature of Qualcomm 215 is NFC support and contactless payment capabilities using Google Pay.
The first smartphones based on Qualcomm 215 will go on sale in the second half of 2019.
