Soon after the publication of the first image of the Pixel 4 smartphone, Google released a new official video with the participation of the future new item. The video not only revealed previously unknown design features of the gadget but also demonstrated its unusual technical capabilities.
The video series published in the company's blog demonstrates the work of Soli technology, the development of which took Google engineers several years. Mini-radar will be able to recognize user gestures at a distance: the Motion Sense system will allow you to change songs in the playlist, turn off the alarm, reset phone calls and perform other actions with a wave of your hand. The video also showed what the front panel of the future flagship of the company looks like: the screen of the new product will do without "bangs" and a hole for a selfie camera.
The face recognition technique has also changed. Usually, the smartphone should be placed in front of the face at a certain angle, but the unlock of Pixel 4 or confirmation of payment will occur in any position, even if the device is turned upside down by sensors: simply reach for the front panel of the device. At the same time, authentication works only in the presence of the smartphone owner.
The technology is based on two infrared cameras, infrared illumination, point projector, and proximity sensor. It is important that the entire recognition process is carried out by means of the smartphone itself. The user's biometric data is stored on a special Titan M chip and is not transferred to Google cloud storage. The same applies to data coming from Soli radar. It is expected that these technologies will evolve — to the capabilities of contactless control will gradually add new functions of gesture control.
Announcement of Google Pixel 4 is expected in October this year. The exact date of the presentation, detailed specifications and price of the smartphone are not announced.
