The founder of the aerospace company SpaceX, Elon Musk has repeatedly announced his plans to colonize Mars. But, as it turned out, the eccentric billionaire did not forget about more "mundane" projects. In his Twitter blog, he talked about the possibility of using Starship for flights over much shorter distances — for example, between the major cities of his native planet.
According to the head of SpaceX, the spacecraft is designed for 100 seats when flying to Mars, but when flying between the earth's cities Starship is able to take on Board up to 1000 people, albeit with less comfort. Passengers will have to sit in special seats with clamps — a similar design is used in the trolleys of roller coasters. Most "trips" will take only 15-20 minutes, so there will be no toilets or cooking areas on Board, which will increase the number of seats.
"This is, in fact, an intercontinental ballistic missile with a speed of flight of 25 strides, which can land," said Musk.
For the first time, SpaceX published a conceptual video with an “advertisement” of intercontinental flights on a spacecraft as early as 2017. The launch and landing of a starship are supposed to be carried out on special platforms located on the water near major cities. The estimated launch date of the unusual "taxi" has not yet been announced.
