Almost four years after the release of the sixth-generation iPod touch, Apple suddenly announced a new version of the player. The presented variant turned out to be extremely ambiguous.
"We're making the most affordable iOS device even better, offering twice as much performance as group FaceTime and augmented reality support for just $ 199. Thanks to ultra-thin and lightweight designs, the iPod touch has always been an ideal device for games, music and more, wherever you went," said Greg Joswiak, Vice President of worldwide product marketing.
iPod touch of the seventh generation looks no different from its predecessor. It has the same 4-inch display with a resolution of 1136x640 pixels, large frames, the classic home button without the Touch ID fingerprint scanner and a thin all-metal case.
The main change was the Apple A10 Fusion processor, which was used in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Recall that in the previous iPod touch was installed A8 from the iPhone 6. The use of the new chipset made it possible to implement support for group calls in FaceTime and applications with the use of augmented reality ARKit. The player will also support the new Apple Arcade game service.
The price of the new iPod touch starts at $199 (US) for the version with a 32 GB drive. Option with 128 GB will cost $299 (US), and the top modification of 256 GB (for the first time in iPod touch) will cost $399 (US). For comparison, the iPhone 7 with the same processor, but a more advanced camera, fingerprint scanner, large screen, water protection, stereo speakers, etc.
