Apple is among the first to abandon outdated technologies, pushing the industry to more modern solutions. So it happened with the fingerprint scanner, which in the iPhone X was replaced by the face ID recognition system. Now among smartphone manufacturers is gaining popularity sub-screen fingerprint scanner, and it seems that Apple also sees the prospect in this direction.
"Apple" Corporation has received a patent, which describes the system of acoustic imaging for scanning on the surface of something in high resolution. This may be a fingerprint on the display, as indicated by one of the pictures in the document. The text of the patent States that the technology can be used to convert electrical signals into mechanical energy and Vice versa. In other words, the relief of the finger will turn into an electrical signal.
The patent also mentions that the system can be used to scan not only the fingerprint but also the palm, ear, cheek and even the face. For example, the smartphone will detect the owner when answering an incoming call. This way, no outsider will be able to use the device. In addition, the technology will be able to monitor human vital signs: heart rate and breathing.
The patent was filed by Apple in the third quarter of 2016, but only now it has been officially registered. It is possible that the company is going to apply this technology in future iPhone models.
