In future iPhones, not only a new design is expected, but also the appearance of a sub-screen fingerprint scanner. However, as it became known, Apple is working on a completely new way of biometric identification for their devices. This is evidenced by one of the latest patents of the company.
The Apple patent describes a method for identifying a user's identity in the palm of his hand. The technology works on a similar principle with Touch ID in the company's smartphones and tablets, only instead of the finger pattern, the unique structure of blood vessels in the palm of your hand is scanned.
According to the description of the technology, the screen of a mobile device should consist of several layers and a photodiode. The latter emits infrared light, with the help of which the network of veins of the palm is determined. To increase accuracy, scanning also occurs using visible light. The patent also says about the possibility of using the Face ID system, which would further increase the reliability and accuracy of recognition.
A new biometric identification method can also be used to monitor user health. For example, a vein scan reveals edema, blood clots, or other health problems. Interestingly, scanning can take place even while using the device and performing various tasks on it.
As usual, the appearance of such a patent does not guarantee that Apple will incorporate this technology into its products in the near future. Recently, however, the company has been paying much attention to the health of users, especially in the Apple Watch, so the appearance of a new function is quite possible.
