Despite the tendency of automakers to abandon traditional ICEs, Lamborghini is in no hurry to completely switch to electric motors. However, the Italians are already succeeding in combining both technologies - the company announced the start of sales of the Sian serial supercar with a hybrid power unit.
The company made attempts to build a hybrid back in 2014, developing the Lamborghini Asterion concept with a gasoline V10 and three electric motors. But before the launch of the production car, it never came. The idea was developed in the new Lamborghini Sian supercar, which was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The name Sian was not chosen by chance - in the Bologna dialect it means “electric discharge” or “lightning”.
The wheelbase of the supercar is 2700 millimeters, an all-wheel-drive transmission with a Haldex clutch on the front axle is implemented, a push-rod suspension and shock absorbers with magnetorheological fluid were installed. The body was made of carbon fiber to maximize the weight of the car.
The design of the exhaust system includes rotary blinds - when the exhaust gas temperature increases, the dampers automatically open to improving air circulation. Under the hood placed a petrol 6.5-liter V12, which has a capacity of 785 horsepower and maximum torque-720 N·m. the maximum speed of the car reaches 350 km/h.
One of the electric motors is located in the ISR robotic gearbox. Its power is only 34 horsepower with a torque of 38 N.m. It allows the car to travel at low speed, for example, during parking.
Another original solution used in Sian is the rejection of the battery. Engineers chose him supercapacitor, which is at a similar power is three times lighter than traditional batteries and it has a relatively higher level of energy. The weight of this unit was 34 kilograms with a total vehicle weight of 1622 kilograms.
Lamborghini Sian is positioned as a production car, but the number of copies will be limited to only 63 cars - in honor of the anniversary of the founding of the company in 1963. It is noteworthy that the entire circulation has already been sorted by pre-order.
