First tests of Assassin's Creed Valhalla on PS5 and Xbox Series X

Recommended Posts

The author of the NX Gamer channel conducted the first full-fledged comparison of Assassin's Creed Valhalla on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The results can once again be called "boring" - there is virtually parity between both versions.

Both versions work at 60 FPS with very rare drops in a couple of frames, but on the PS5, full vertical synchronization is enabled, while on the Xbox, adaptive synchronization is used with image breaks when the frequency decreases.

John Linneman of Digital Foundry notes that image breaks occur on the PlayStation 5, just less often.

The resolution in both versions is also the same-dynamic 4K. On the PS5 in tests, it did not fall below 1620p, and on the Xbox - 1440p.

The only" serious " difference between the versions was the download: on the PS5, it is about 5-12% faster. It is also worth noting that the PlayStation 5 does not have all sorts of logos when you cold start the game, although on the Xbox does.

According to the calculations blogger JorRaptor, start from the home screen to the game console main menu PS5 takes about 20 seconds, and Series X - about 53 seconds. The save file is loaded in 10-15 seconds.

As a result, there are only two notable differences between the two versions of the game: full vertical sync and slightly faster downloads on the PS5.

The VG Tech channel also prepared its analysis. The author showed a little more episodes, including from England, but the results are similar — both consoles almost always show 60 FPS, with the exception of rare drops. In the worst cases, up to 50 frames per second.

Average rate:

  • PS5 - 59.85 FPS
  • Xbox Series X - 59.62 FPS

VG Tech also tested "Valhalla" on the Xbox Series S. Here the game works in dynamic 1620p with a decrease to 1152p. On average-about 1440p. Performance is good, the game consistently holds 30 frames per second (average - 29.95 FPS). The tearing occurs here as well.

The authors of the portal Les Numériques found that the PlayStation 5 of the same revision (CFI-1016A) differ in noise level.
To understand the reasons, experts disassembled the consoles, found that they use different coolers.

From the site's investigation, it became clear that at least three types of fans are used in the production of the console. The authors found two in 7 consoles that they managed to disassemble, while the last one (the one that was shown at the system analysis) they did not find.

It is impossible to understand which cooler is built into the console. This seems to happen randomly. But don't worry too much. The difference in noise is modest: after 15 minutes in the remake of Demon's Souls, one console produced 39 decibels and the other 43.

In general, journalists note that there is no need to worry, let alone panic. The PS5 is still much quieter than the PS4 and PS4 Pro, some of which were so noisy in heavy gaming that by the end of a generation they were compared to jet planes.

The company Sony has released a fresh firmware update PlayStation 5. The console software updated to version 20.02-02.26. The patch weighs approximately 860MB and improves system performance.

More details have not yet been released, but players are hoping that the update will fix game crashes that still occur.
Recall that the start of sales of the PlayStation 5 took place around the world, but the demand significantly exceeds the supply. Earlier it was reported about scammers selling the console under the guise of network employees.

Without any warning, Sony finally decided to show the gamepad for the PlayStation 5. The controller was named DualSense with a hint of new features, as well as a changed design — it became two-color and more rounded.

Sony again pointed to improved tactile feedback with vibration and trigger resistance. According to the developers, with DualSense, players will be able to feel all the potholes on virtual roads and the bowstring tension in the hands of the protagonist. The company also added a built-in microphone, used a new lightweight battery and replaced the Share button with Create with similar functions - more on this will be discussed later.
DualShock is made in white and black, and the shape is now much more similar to its competitor from Microsoft. At the same time, Sony did not abandon the symmetrical arrangement of the sticks and did not add more buttons, at least on the external sides of the controller — the internal one was never shown. Among other things, the developers placed the light panel on the sides of the touch panel.

Sony still did not show the design of the PlayStation 5 itself — while the company limited itself to a lot of technical details about the console. The first presentation from Mark Cerny was held on March 18. Although netizens ridiculed his approach to the announcement of a new gaming system, in early April, he further clarified some details in an interview with Digital Foundry.

Comparisons of new games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X continue to appear on the network, and in the case of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it is again about almost complete parity.

The author of the latest analysis was the VG Tech channel. He tested the shooter in two modes:
120 FPS in dynamic 1440p (can go down to 1280x1200)
60 FPS in dynamic 4K (can go down to 1920x1800) with ray traced shadows.
In both modes, Cold War reaches the declared frame rate, but if in the standard mode with 60 frames per second they are held in 99.9% of cases, then in the mode with 120 FPS drops still occur.
On PS5, they occur less often - the average was 117 FPS in the test. Xbox Series X has 114.93 FPS. The minimum indicators were 97 and 92 FPS, respectively.
Prior to this, Xbox Series X and PS5 have already managed to compare in Devil May Cry 5 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The difference between versions is minimal. Graphically, all versions are identical, and the main differences lie in a slight difference in performance and download speed.
At the same time, VG Tech tested Cold War on the Xbox Series S. This version does not offer 120fps mode or ray tracing shadows. In general, it looks and works in virtually the same way as it did on the outgoing generation of consoles. It works 99.9% at 60 FPS, but in the test, it dropped to 45 FPS.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was released on November 13 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC. In its debut week, for the first time in history, it did not start from the first line in British retail - it was bypassed by the fresh Assassin's Creed.

For the first time in the history of Call of Duty in the debut, week failed to top the charts of British retail, because this year the shooter was released simultaneously with the latest part of Assassin's Creed — and it was the Assassin's Creed Valhalla that became the leader of the past week.

"Valhalla" as a whole showed a remarkably large sale. The starting circulation was twice as high as it was a couple of years ago at the extremely successful Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Although it should be borne in mind that the Ubisoft action took into account 5 days of sales, while Black Ops Cold War — two.
42% of Assassin's Creed circulation was for PS4, 18% for PS5, 40% for Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales closes the top three. The PS5 version accounts for a whopping 71% of circulation, while the remaining 29% is on PS4. At the same time, 21% of all games sold for the week fell on the PS5, although the console, again, has not yet been released.
Other new products include a remake of  Demon's Souls in 6th place, Sackboy: A Big Adventure in 13th (89% of circulation went to the PS5 version), and Godfall in 16th. Yakuza's soft relaunch, subtitled Like a Dragon, hit 20th place with 65% of its circulation on PS4.
It's also worth noting that Just Dance's annual sales have more than doubled, while DIRT 5 is selling modestly.
Charts from 8 to 14 November
Assassin's Creed Valhalla (new) Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (new) Spider-Man: Miles Morales (new) FIFA 21 Animal Crossing: New Horizons Demon's Souls (new) Super Mario 3D All-Stars Mario Kart 8: Deluxe Minecraft for Switch Watch Dogs: Legion
